How To Find a Job in Oman

In this article, I am going to take you to the southwest of Asia, on the south coast of the Arabian peninsula, where a modern monarchy led by Sultan Qaboos Bin Said lies. Bordered by the United Arab Emirates, SaudiArabia, and Yemen, it is the Sultanate of Oman. Oil is the sultanate's main export, along with agricultural products, fish, liquid natural gas and traditional crafts. Oman can be a good destination to those looking to experience working in one of the safest countries in the entire Middle East.

How to find a job in the Sultanate of Oman:

There are some steps that you need to follow before and afteryou arrive in the Sultanate:

1- Before you arrive in Oman:

It is better to have found an employment before your arrival in Oman. Your employer, on behalf of you, will fix all papers needed for your residence visa. He will also make sure that the steps you will go through will be facilitated for you.

Now if you wish to find a job in Oman, you will need to follow two ways. You either prefer to pass by recruitment agencies, and there are many specialized in expatriates' jobs in the Middle East. Or, you will choose not to get in touch with any recruitment agency and here you will need to:

* Send unsolicited applications to companies based in Oman.

* Use your network to make your CV cross in Oman.

* Search for a job in Oman using specialized job websites Use the various job such as: bayt.com; monster.com; gulfjobsites.com; overseasjobs.com; jobsooq.com

* You can also visit the web sites of the big Omani companies, which publish their job offers such as: pdo.co.om; omantel.net.om; nawras.om; abaoman.edu.om

* You can get yourselve a copy of the Apex Business Directory of Oman businessdirectoryoman.com, which contains a lot of information, telephone numbers, addresses and contacts of the main companies operating in Oman.

* You can also contact directly the hotels or the hotel groups based in Oman.

What does a job contract consists of:

When you find an employment it is advisable to negotiate all the terms of the contract before your arrival in Oman. The contract generally includes: health insurance, transport (provided by your company or in the form of an allowance transport), accommodation (provided by your company or in the form of rent allowance), your moving and the school of your children.

2- After you arrive in Oman on a tourist visa:

When you arrive on a tourist visa in Oman, it can be difficult for you to find a job, but, definitely not impossible, especially if you have good contacts in the country. The main difficulty in the Sultanate is being the slowliness of decisions and to find a job can take certain time.

Once you arrive in Oman, it would be a wise thing to get yourselve a copy of the Apex Business Directory of Oman from their office, which is located in Ruwi (24799 388). The Apex Business Directory contains a lot of information such as the addresses and the telephone numbers of most of the Omani companies.

Notes:

- If you arrive in Oman on a family visa following your spouse, it will be difficult for you to find an employment in the country. In some fields such as education and medicine, they ask for qualified candidates.

- The program of Omanisation forbids an expatriate to take a post, to which an Omani could apply, and this limits the opportunities.

- If you are interested in education, you can contact the English or French language centers, as well as you can contact Omani universities that teach those two languages as foreign languages.
