What Are The First Steps To Study In Canada?

Higher education in Canada is very excelent, and Canadian universities have a good reputation. A lot of people from different countries go to Canada each year to pursue their higher stuides in different areas. Thus, it is advised to start the different steps to study in Canada, at least, 8 months before your intended study starts. 



1/ Send an application to all Canadian universities of your interest: from November through April:



You have to send a request to every university, for which you want to apply. Like Denmark, Canada has no system centralizing the requests. The deadlines of reception of requests are between January, 1st, and March, 1st, according to universities. It is, thus, preferable be necessary to send your application from November. University registration fees vary from one university to another, but, generally, they range from Set-up fees vary from 40 Euros to 60 Euros.

The requirements to be accepted at a Canadian university are rather simple. You need your high school diploma or any other diploma in connection with the desired program or course of study. The registrations are made on file, with different criteria according to universities. It is, thus, possible that you will be asked to have an average in your high school diploma, or a minimum result in certain tests or materials. For example, French people who want to pursue their higher studies at McGill University, should have a minimum of 11 in their high school diploma, and also should justify their level of English, through official tests such as: TOEFL or IELTS.

2/  Get a temporary residence permit: from April through Juin:

As soon as you registration is complet and you receive an acceptance letter from a Canadian university, you can take the following step towards getting a visa and a resident permit. If you intend to study for more than 6 months, it is necessary that you apply for a temporary residence permit for studying at the nearest Canadian embassy or consulate in your country. This temporary residence permit is valid for a given duration, and only for the university having accepted you. It takes about 6 weeks to obtain it, and there are certain documents you need to supply at the Canadian embassy or consulate to get it:



1- A valid passport.



2- The letter of acceptance from the university which you chose.



3- A proof of enough financial means, to prove that you do not need to work.



4- A medical certificate.



5- A police record in certain cases.



6- Application fees 95  Euros.
